Grammy Weddings

I really didn’t see the show, but apparently there were a lot of weddings performed together at the Grammy Awards a few days ago. I’m sure you’ve all heard this, and many of us are happy at the show of loving support that everyone there got. And to have ‘Same Love’ by Macklemore and Lewis performed during this time was probably very touching. I know the song is quite beautiful.

Of course there are those who think the Grammy Awards are not the place for such an obvious ‘political statement’. Political statement is a funny way to refer to this, if you ask me. I guess it was, but it’s really just a show of love for one another. It’s a way to get people to see couples who love each other make a commitment. I suppose the point was to get people to talk, to get exposure for the cause of equality. So yeah, a political statement may be what it was. But how many times have artists over the years stood on stage and said they support everyone fighting for us overseas, or that they want us to end our involvement in Iraq or Afghanistan? Aren’t those political statements, too. The same people who think this time it was inappropriate probably supported it some of those other times. Seems it’s only the wrong place for a political statement if that statement is one they disagree with.

There are always going to be haters. People who think their version of how the world works is the only way, and anyone who doesn’t agree with them is just “forcing their agenda” down the throats of the people with the rigid point of view. And if any of you are reading this and you are one of the people with such a rigid view, please know that we aren’t trying to force anything on you, we just want you to let us live our lives and be happy, as anyone else can. We just all support equality, that’s it.

Congratulations to all the couples who wed. I wish every one of you a long and happy life together with your spouse.

Same Sex Marriage In Oklahoma?

So the judge ruled that Oklahoma’s marriage ban was unconstitutional. Um… wow, I just… that’s amazing. I hope the ruling withstands the appeals now and we’ll be one step closer to marriage equality everywhere. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
